A valid library card is necessary to borrow materials from the Waterford Public Library. Any resident of the service area is eligible for a card upon presentation of proof of residency. Anyone employed or attending school within the service area is eligible upon presentation of proof of employment or enrollment. Non-residents who reside in the Southern Adirondack Library System (SALS) or Mohawk Valley Library System (MVLS) may borrow freely upon presentation of a valid card from their home library. Home libraries may be contacted to ascertain the status of borrowers wishing to use the Waterford Public Library. People residing outside the SALS/MVLS service area may obtain a library card by paying an annual non-resident fee of $10.00.
> A child may have a library card when he/she has enrolled in Kindergarten. The child should be able to sign their name legibly. A parent or guardian must be present to complete the application card.
> Students in seventh grade and above are not required to obtain the signature of a parent or guardian when registering for a library card.
> Family members are not allowed to use another family members card without that person being present at the time of use.
> New library cards are issued under a “new borrower” status for at least 30 days. This status places certain restrictions on what may be borrowed. Specifically “new borrowers” are allowed to check out up to (2) DVD’s on the card at a time. One (1) of those DVD’s can be a 2 Day Loan item. “New borrowers” may not borrow DVD box-sets. The library reserves the right to extend “new borrower” status if it is deemed necessary.
