After months of maternity leave\, she will drop her infant daughter off at daycare for the first time and return to her job as a literary agent. Finally. But\, when she wakes\, her husband Luke isn’t there\, and in his place is a cryptic note. Then it starts. Breaking news: there’s a hostage situation developing in London. The police arrive\, and tell her Luke is involved. But he isn’t a hostage. Her husband—doting father\, eternal optimist—is the gunman. What she does next is crucial. SUMMARY:Online Author Talk: Mark Wolynn
DESCRIPTION:Join us in conversation with renowned therapy expert and awarding-winning author Mark Wolynn as we discuss his work It Didn’t Start with You and The Official It Didn’t Start with You Workbook. Wolynn shares compelling evidence that the roots of our anxiety\, phobias\, and chronic pain may not reside in our immediate life experience or in chemical imbalances in our brains—but in the lives of our parents\, grandparents\, and even great-grandparents. And now\, The Official It Didn’t Start with You Workbook is available with practical exercises to take your understanding even further. \nThe latest scientific research supports what many have long intuited—that traumatic experiences can be passed down through generations. Even if the person who suffered the original trauma has died\, or the story has been forgotten or silenced\, memory and feelings can live on. These emotional legacies are often hidden\, encoded in everything from gene expression to everyday language\, and they play a far greater role in our emotional and physical health than has ever before been understood. \nAs a pioneer in the field of inherited family trauma\, Mark Wolynn has worked with individuals and groups on a therapeutic level for over twenty years. It Didn’t Start with You is a transformative approach to resolving longstanding difficulties that in many cases\, traditional therapy\, drugs\, or other interventions have not had the capacity to touch. \nRegister today to join our virtual conversation and learn more about how inherited family trauma impacts your health–and how to break the cycle: https://libraryc.org/waterfordlibraryNY/175833/register \nAbout the Author: \nMark Wolynn is a leading expert in the field of inherited family trauma. He’s the director of The Family Constellation Institute in the US and is renowned for his work that bridges epigenetics\, neuroscience\, and somatic healing\, and shows how the traumas of our parents\, grandparents\, and even great grandparents\, can live in our bodies as unexplained depression\, anxiety\, obsessive thoughts\, and chronic health conditions. His book It Didn’t Start with You is an international bestseller\, which has sold more than three million copies worldwide. It won the Silver Nautilus Book Award for Psychology and has been translated into 40 languages. Mark has just released the 2025 revised edition of It Didn’t Start with You and The Official It Didn’t Start with You Workbook.

SUMMARY:Waterford Readers Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join the library for a monthly book club! We will primarily be reading mysteries and thrillers but other genres may be included from time to time. Our pick for June 30th is The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young. Copies are available at the check-out desk for pickup during the month of June. No registration is required. Please note that this book club takes place after the library is closed. We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes prior to the start of book club if you wish to check out items or peruse our collection. \nIn the small mountain town of Jasper\, North Carolina\, June Farrow is waiting for fate to find her. The Farrow women are known for their thriving flower farm–and the mysterious curse that has plagued their family line. The whole town remembers the madness that led to Susanna Farrow’s disappearance\, leaving June to be raised by her grandmother and haunted by rumors. It’s been a year since June started seeing and hearing things that weren’t there. Faint wind chimes\, a voice calling her name\, and a mysterious door appearing out of nowhere–the signs of what June always knew was coming. But June is determined to end the curse once and for all\, even if she must sacrifice finding love and having a family of her own. After her grandmother’s death\, June discovers a series of cryptic clues regarding her mother’s decades-old disappearance\, except they only lead to more questions. But could the door she once assumed was a hallucination be the answer she’s been searching for?

SUMMARY:Total Destruction and Devastation: The Haudenosaunee in the Revolution

Discover this powerful chapter of our state’s history just in time for the Fourth of July. You can register in advance or simply drop in—everyone is welcome to attend.

SUMMARY:Online Author Talk: Dr. Ezekiel J. Emanuel
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an empowering conversation with health expert Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel as he shares his vision for living well and aging with purpose. In Eat Your Ice Cream: Six Simple Rules for a Long and Healthy Life\, he explores how to embrace health\, happiness\, and longevity without falling for quick fixes or unrealistic promises. \nEveryone wants to live a full and healthy life―and every day brings a tidal wave of attention-grabbing misinformation\, faddish ideas from “wellness” influencers\, and bizarre advice from news outlets. The “Wellness Industrial Complex” prescribes conflicting and complicated regimens while promising us more time to enjoy in the future―though it sure is demanding a lot of time right now. But what actually matters most to our health and longevity? \nIn Eat Your Ice Cream\, renowned physician Ezekiel J. Emanuel argues that life is not a competition to live the longest and that “wellness” shouldn’t be difficult; it should be an invisible part of one’s lifestyle that yields maximum health benefits with the least work. Dr. Emanuel cuts through the noise with wit and good humor\, giving readers just what they need: simple\, high-impact\, evidence-based guidelines on such issues as alcohol consumption\, food and nutrition\, exercise\, sleep\, and social engagement. \nResisting the tide of the latest trends to extend life at all costs\, Eat Your Ice Cream reveals that many of the tools for a long\, healthy and meaningful life are already within reach. \nRegister now to hear incredible tips on living a full and healthy life: https://libraryc.org/waterfordlibraryNY/163933/register \nAbout the Author: \nEzekiel J. Emanuel\, MD\, PhD\, is the Vice Provost for Global Initiatives\, the Co-Director of the Healthcare Transformation Institute\, and a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. \nEmanuel is an oncologist and world leader in health policy and bioethics. He is a Special Advisor to the Director General of the World Health Organization\, Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress\, and member of the Council on Foreign Relations.  He was the founding chair of the Department of Bioethics at the National Institutes of Health and held that position until August of 2011. \nDr. Emanuel is the most widely cited bioethicist in history.  He has over 350 publications and has authored or edited 15 books. SUMMARY:Waterford Readers Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join the library for a monthly book club! We will primarily be reading mysteries and thrillers but other genres may be included from time to time. Our pick for May 26th is The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick. Copies are available at the check-out desk for pickup during the month of May. No registration is required. Please note that this book club takes place after the library is closed. We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes prior to the start of book club if you wish to check out items or peruse our collection. \nBy early 1960s standards\, Margaret Ryan\, Viv Buschetti\, and Bitsy Cobb\, suburban housewives in a brand-new “planned community” in Northern Virginia\, appear to have it all. The fact that “all” doesn’t feel like enough leaves them feeling confused and guilty\, certain the fault must lie with them. Things begin to change when they form a book club with Charlotte Gustafson–the eccentric and artsy “new neighbor” from Manhattan–and read Betty Friedan’s just-released book\, The Feminine Mystique. But is it really the book that alters the lives of these four very different women? Or is it the bond of sisterhood that helps them find courage to confront the past\, navigate turmoil in a rapidly changing world\, and see themselves in a new and limitless light?
